How to choose a color scheme for your WordPress site

Deciding on your WordPress site’s colors is a lot like painting a room in your house. Picking the right color for the trim and window frames has a lot to do with the color the interior walls. What kind of mood do you want to create for your visitor? Relaxing? Energizing?

In other words, you have to consider how all the colors work in context.

The good news is that even if you got an “F” in Art, you can create an attractive design by using the following resources.

With these sites, you can pick a color palette that works for you.

If you do a lot of design and need to match colors to existing elements, check out ColorSchemer, a desktop app that allows you to identify colors with an eye-dropper and select various different color schemes based on the selected color.

And don’t forget, with the next update/version of Headway, the Quick Start Wizard will help you get the colors right. The Wizard takes your uploaded banner/logo/header and gives you the right color choices to use throughout your site.

Of course John, you already knew that but I just could not resist teasing your readers.

Thanks again for your great post and tutorials for Headway and for your continued support.

Grant – thanks for the tease! Part of what I’m doing with Headway Videos is providing a series of “getting started” tutorials covering all the basics. Choosing a color scheme is one basic point, which, as you mention is taken care of by Headway to some degree. You rock, dude! Love you! :-D
